REPOINTING

Minor mortar joint deterioration may not affect only a wall’s appearance. When deterioration is severe enough to cause water to pass through the joints and into a building, the water can cause further deterioration to the mortar, many masonry units, ties, anchors and/or other elements behind the skin of the building.

The most common and usually the simplest repair required for masonry walls is repointing. With skillful execution, repointing will not only protect the building, but enhance its historical character.
